Facebook just announced that they will start applying a new data permissions policies starting from June 30th.
Facebook stated, in a mailing to application developers, the following:
"In April, we announced a new data model to provide users with greater transparency and control of their data. As part of this change, all applications that require data beyond a user's basic information will need to request explicit permission for each data field. This new model presents all requested permissions in a single dialog rather than a sequence of separate dialogs. Based on our testing, this improves conversion rates by 29-41% for applications that require extended permissions like email or stream publishing.
Applications will retain their current permissions for existing users. This change is compatible with all of Facebook's SDKs and does not require OAuth 2.0 authentication. Also, as part of these changes, we will no longer support the automatic authentication feature for canvas applications.
You can learn more about the new data permissions in our upgrade guide."
Those new policies will affect in a different ways the applications depends on the level of information it requires from users behind the basic-in-profile ones.
The new measures follows the criticism Facebook faced recently concerning it's privacy policies.
